Architecture Design Studio I[ARC 60105]

Project 1: Self-Expression through Object ‘REPRESENTING ME’

This project served as an introduction to the basic methods and approaches in generation of
ideas and conceptual narratives. Through the project, we were exposed to various means of exploring ideas by translating it through an expression on various art forms
worn on the face, hand or head (parts of the body which are most involved in making & creativity). Based on our personality or personalities, we were given the freedom to communicate and express form and come up with an abstracted form of one self.
The final outcome of the project was to take shape either as a piece of an artwork worn on the body (a mask, a hand glove or a helmet)

Personally, I chose to design a helmask, as it matched to my personality.

Below are the photos of  the helmet I came up with:

REFLECTION:

The project allowed me to know myself well, and transform that into an abstract form and further present it to other people

Project 2: Representing Self in Architectural Space ‘ME IN SPACE’

In a group of 6-8 members, we were to design a pavilion that matches to one of the group member's personality. In our case, Adam was our persona and we designed an octagon shaped pavilion that matches up to his character. This project introduced us to basic design principles such as rudimentary ways in which to order and organize spaces and forms. The project further enhanced our understanding of Scale and proportion with relation to the human body.

Below is the pavilion that my group designed:

Below are the boards that bear the ergonomics, anthropometrics and persona's personality:

Below are the boards that show design exploration and Orthographic drawings of the pavilion:

Final Project: ‘Dream space for the User –‘SPACE FOR THE SELF’

For this project, we were required to design a space for the self by attaching it to the walls/surfaces of an imagined ‘city’ in an empty abandoned lot in between two buildings. The space was to fit a specific use e.g. exercising, contemplating, relaxing etc.
This understanding was to be architecturally translated into spaces (2-3) that successfully establish the quality of the interior and articulation of exterior. Concept ought to evidently show the experiential and spatial quality. We were also to consider how well design conforms to both the physical and non-physical requirements of oneself.

The project was to be carried out in three phases. The first task was the Narrative. My narrative basically focused on Childhood vs. Adulthood with a taint of nostalgia in the entire story line.
Task 2 and 3 was all about exploring how to organize the 2-3 spaces which encompasses
design principles in spatial relationships and organization. In addition to that, we also explored the notions and experiential effects of materials and the senses in the final design.

The hideout design gradually developed, from scratch, and on the way, we did an interim presentation before the final presentation.

My final design, took the shape below:

The final studio project integrated with Design Communication, whereby we had to draw orthographic drawings and extra drawings of the hideout model that we came up with.

Below are the photos of the boards that have my orthographic drawings:
